Families with social support: profile and predictors of the support received

Abstract

The following article describes the profile of families having in its care minors and included in one of the following social care programs of the Valencia city council: program of Ruled Economic Assistance (PER in Spanish)and the Protection Economic Assistance program (PEP in Spanish). 297 families, all the families included in these programs, were interviewed. In general they have related to economy, housing, work, health, social isolation and other stress factors. There are significant differences between the profile of the families of both programs. Families included in the PEP program show more difficulties. Logistic regression makes it possible to predict 82% of the cases; the most important predictor were: Members of the cohabitation unit, Work situation, Social support and Ethnic group.
