Abstract

This study aimed to study the effect of time of physical exercise and weekly hours of practice on cognitive, emotional and anthropometric (weight) variables. 250 women (mean age = 49.08 years) filled questionnaires on psychological health and sociodemographic data. Statistical analyzes showed that weekly hours of practice predict the variance of weight, emotional stability, self-concept and self-esteem. Furthermore, the practice time variable (months) significantly predicts cognitive control, emotional stability, self-concept and self-esteem. Results support that physical activity promotes cognitive and affective health, and that the relevant variable is the time practicing exercise and not the weekly hours of physical activity. In short, in women the more practice time the more cognitive control, emotional stability, self-concept and self-esteem.
