Abstract

This study analyse the gender-stereotypical view of the male, the female and the gender-stereotypic selfview in a sample of Spanish adolescents. Participants rated the typical male and female and themselves on masculine and feminine traits from the BSRI. The results show that the prototypical view of males and females in adolescence is clearly defined by gender stereotypes. In the same way, the self-view is defined by
the trait stereotypes. However, when self-view is compared with the prototypical image of male and female, the data shows that self-view is less stereotypical than the view of same gender people.
