Abstract

For a long time, women have hardly taken part in declarations of armed conflict and in official peace declarations and processes. Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, passed by the United Nations Assembly in 2000, specifically addresses the need to call for an increased participation of women at decision-making levels for the prevention, management and resolution of conflict. The article presented here incorporates the various consequences that wars have on women and explains that the presence of women in conflict resolution is necessary for their needs to be taken into account. In addition, the presence of women in such processes requires training in gender-related and conflict resolution issues to carry out successfully negotiation processes.
