Abstract

The meteorological phenomenon known as "gota fría" or DANA, which can lead to a natural disaster, generates psychological affectation and adverse consequences on the psychological well-being of those who suffer it. The aim of this study is, on the one hand, to analyze the relationships between psychological well-being and psychological capital in people who suffered a DANA in September 2019 in the province of Alicante (Spain), and on the other, to check whether individuals who experienced material damage and/or losses in employment or job, showed differences in their well-being and psychological capital, compared to those who experienced the same event without having losses. The study involved 202 workers who experienced this natural disaster. Based on the losses suffered by those affected, the sample was distributed into four groups: no losses, own material losses, material losses in their organization/workplace, and both types. Psychological well-being (PWBS) and psychological capital (PCQ) were also assessed. The results indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between psychological well-being and psychological capital. Likewise, the group who suffered more material losses of their own and in the work environment, showed significantly lower levels of psychological well-being (less autonomy, self-acceptance, control of the environment, development of positive relationships with others and less personal development) and psychological capital (less self-efficacy, optimism, hope and less resilience).
