Abstract

Labour segregation is present in the labour market, maintaining men and women in different positions and activity sectors. Gender stereotypes and roles determine the perception of professions, thus the career choice of young students is subjected to those social bias. This paper is directed to establish the gender impact on professional activities, through the analysis of  professional profiles, achievement of goals, and barriers found in the development of the career. Two professions, psychology and industrial engineering, representing feminine and masculine stereotypes, have been analysed, in order to obtain conclusions on how to remove gender  discrimination from the labour market.
