Abstract

We present the historical development of Peruvian psychology highlighting the contributions of Honorio Delgado and Walter Blumenfeld, the  foundation of the Peruvian Society of Psychology in 1954 and the first  training program for psychologists established in 1955 in the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos of Lima. We also present the creation of the Psychologists’ School of Peru in 1980 and the promulgation of the Law of the Work of the psychologist in 2004. With regard to the professional training it is warned that the college studies have an average duration of 5 years. There is an accreditation system which, to date; only two  professional Psychology schools have achieved to meet its indicators. There is no system to regulate the quality of the postgraduate education. To practice the profession it is obligatory to be registered in the psychologists’ association. A professional certification through competitions is in process. Diverse researches stand out and the necessity of  empowering these aspects becomes evident. There are proposed tasks and challenges around an organized psychology, to create a scientific information system, a system for the evaluation of psychological tests and the necessity of the accreditation for pre and post grade Schools.
