Abstract

The article is focused on the contribution that the study of generativity in older age offers to a positive perspective on aging. Firstly, different concepts and ways of approaching the ‘aging well’ perspective are commented, such as successful aging or productive aging. After identifying strengths and weaknesses of such approaches, the article argues how generativity applied to older age is able to both frame the aging process intro a social context and connect aging and personal development. Different generative activities and contexts that could be relevant for understanding older people’s needs are described. Finally, the article underscores some challenges that the study of generativity in older age has to deal with to ensure its viability as a useful research field
