Death and mourning as an essential experience: accompanying the process of dying

Abstract

Confronting death as a part of life is still a difficult reality to accept for many people. In consequence, adopting a false perception of invulnerability results in a pure self-defense mechanism, which leaves us apart from assuming that we are also potential victims of illness, suffering and death. This article is aimed at reviewing some situations related to the process of dying, as well inviting to reflection. All of this with the objective to generate an actitudinal change with respect to death, and value the importance of professional in the aid relationship to this change achieve.
