Abstract

This article reflects on the relationship between higher education and aging, their potential and advantages, analyzed from the educational experiences of the Universities for the elderly. We propose the concept of constructive aging as a specific concept of the teaching and learning, compared to other denominations that do not take into account these processes of formal education. We discuss the role of stereotypes about older people in this type of education and calls for a change sociocultural views for use in relation to aging. It also discusses the possibilities of adults and older in formal learning situations, usually seen as something confined to the years-long working life of people. Finally we propose the idea of promoting an emancipatory education for this type of experience
