Abstract

School violence and bullying are problems which are recognized by educationalists and psychologists as a phenomenon which is very prevalent in the primary and secondary schools of Europe. The article describes the definition of school violence and the social and interpersonal nature of the bullying phenomenon. The characteristics of the children involved in school violence and bullying are explained, focusing on risk factors and peer social relations. Furthermore, an intervention model is presented that focuses educational work on the construction of school convivencia. This model is useful for the prevention of violence inasmuch as it promotes the development of values, education of emotions and the development of social competence.
