Abstract

Social representation is a key concept in social psycology who has developped a lot of interest, and also their relations with prejudice and discrimination. In this article we would think about older people’s and elderly’s stereotypes. Some research has been done in this field and results showed ageism as a description of older people built in negative factors linked with discriminatory practices. Improving efforts by psychologists an other professionals of social sciences working in gerontology and caring for old people, and researchers to cope with consequences of this ageism in old people and for society as a whole, is necessary. Training for specialists and more contents about ageing and old age in the curriculum development and syllabus at Universities should improve.
