The current acceptance of gender violence myths

Abstract

Intimate partner violence against women is a very important social and health problem, as the main global and national health authorities pointed out. Therefore, in recent decades this problem has been incorporated not only to the laws of many countries, but also the political agenda with different measures and initiatives both protection of victims (women and their children and daughters), and prevention (primary, secondary and tertiary) of their future occurrence. However, despite this, the myths and misconceptions about this violence, its characteristics and its causes, yet are deeply rooted in many social segments and is, therefore, necessary to continue working to achieve their eradication. By way of example, and in order to empirically substantiate this claim, it has been conducted a study on a convenience sample of 423 people, which confirms the hypothesis  that, beyond sex, age or training, such beliefs are maintained and further hard prevention work is needed in this field
