Abstract

Evidence of the efficacy of the psychosocial treatment programs for child depression is reviewed:Action, by Stark and the others, Primary and Secondary Control Enhacement Training, by Weisz and the others, and Cognition-Action-Emotion Program, by Méndez and the others.Action is the only program evaluated in accordance with the criteria established by the
American Psychological Association to determine theempirical  support of psychological treatment.The efficacy ofthe psychosocial treatment for child depression with regard to the Childrens Depression lnventory is high (d > 0.80).The three basic elements ofthe psychosocial treatment forchild depression are described:affective education,pleasant activities,andcognitive restructuring.
