Abstract

This work is an exploratory study which goal is to analyze what perception of sexuality and love myths have a sample of people with intellectual dissability as a way to prevent sexual violence against this group. The sample is composed by 33 people (19 men and 14 female) that have been diagnosed of intellectual disability mild. For the study protocol was worked collecting information from open response, given by individual interviews, and shaped by socio-demographic variables of interest, the concept of sexuality and marital and family myths of love and most widespread culturally. The results have highlighted, firstly, the lack of differentiation between sexuality and love, as well as little discrimination in relation to affective manifestations. Secondly, the maintenance of myths as fairy prince, better half, eternal love, and specially jealousies and possession, being all of them predictors of gender violence in a couple. We conclude the necessity to introduce educational projects in relation with sexuality with the aim of avoiding the sexual vulnerability of this group
