Abstract

In this paper, firstly we will sum up the research about the work participation in goal setting and its effects on performance and satisfaction. According to the literature reviewed, it is possible to conclude that: a) the research doesn’t prove that the participation raises the goals established by individuals, and b) on the other hand, to set goals improves the performance, both when it is used as an independent motivational technique and when it is combined with employee participation. Likewise, we show the results of one investigation in which we surveyed 249 valencian managers about: a) if they set goals among their employees, and b) if their subordinates participate in the establishment of these objectives. The relationship among these variables and the conclusions finally reached will be discussed.
