New technologies in the treatment of anxiety disorder

Abstract

Currently we have at our disposal psychological intervention techniques with high efficacy for the treatment of anxiety disorders, but it is still a challenge to deep even more into their efficiency and dissemination. Communication and Information Technologies (CIT’s) are becoming useful tools in delivering and/or improving the application of therapeutic services, allowing deepen in the effectiveness or clinical utility axis of the psychological treatments and promoting to reach to all individuals in need. The technologies that are being used include, mainly, virtual reality simulations, augmented reality, Internet or mobile devices. In this article we summarize some of the most relevant contributions existing to date on the use of these technologies in the  concrete field of anxiety disorders.
