Abstract

In this article, the influence of attitudinal and personality variables on drug use, the abuse and the dependence of the cannabis, and the answer to permissive versus punitive messages on the cannabis use, are studied. A drug survey was administered to 156 frequent cannabis users. They were students of BUP, COU and the first course of University in Valencia. The survey is compound of two parts: the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ-J and A) and a questionnaire of drugs, in particular, of cannabis use (patrons of use, motivations, attitudes, effects to short and long time, perceived control, and the preference for permissive or punitive messages about drug use). The outcomes show that the attitudinal and personality variables (in particular, psychoticism and social conformity) are good predictors of abuse and dependence of the cannabis, as well as of the positive answer to the permissive messages about drug use. On the other hand, the effects to shot and long time are perceived, in general, like positives, above all the positive influence of the cannabis on the personal relationship and the capacity of the communication. These outcomes indicate the convenience of a substantial change in the current preventive and prohibitionist policy of drug use.
