Abstract

Leadership has been one of the variables of interest in sport psychology. The Multidimensional Model of Leadership (Chelladurai and Saleh, 1980) was the basis for the creation of the Leadership Sport Scale (LSS-3), that presents debate regarding its factor structure and its reliability values. The main objective of this study was to offer an acceptable factorial solution for the LSS-3 scale in a sample of 326 soccer coaches -men, aged between 17 and 59 years- and assess its psychometric properties. The second objective was to explore the differences in the leadership sub-scales (Training and Instruction, Social Support, Positive Feedback, Democratic Behaviors and Autocratic Behaviors) according to the sports title, educational level and years of experience of the coaches. The exploratory analyzes of structural equations (ESEM) resulted in a scale with 33 items with 5 factors with good adjustment rates. The reliability obtained is excellent, except in the Autocratic Behavior scale. The coaches with more experience are the ones who score the most in Training and Instruction, while the coaches with the least education score higher in autocratic behavior. Depending on the sports title there are no differences
